One storm related-death has been confirmed in Louisiana after severe weather producing multiple tornadoes tore through the state Wednesday, the Louisiana Department of Health confirmed.聽
A 60-year-old woman in Rapides Parish died after a tree and power line collapsed on her home, the health department said.聽
Police responded to the 7400 block of Esler Field Road in Pineville at about 7:30 a.m. and found a large tree had collapsed on a camper trailer, the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office said Thursday.
After a crane removed the fallen tree, Acadian Ambulance found the woman dead inside the house.
Further investigation confirmed that the woman's death was weather-related and no foul play was suspected.聽
鈥淭his is a terrible tragedy and our condolences go out to the family of the deceased,鈥 Rapides Parish Sheriff Mark Wood said. 鈥淒uring these severe weather events, we encourage citizens to monitor the weather and take necessary precautions to stay safe.鈥
No other storm-related deaths have been confirmed. Minor injuries were reported from a that caused major damages to buildings, homes and apartments Wednesday morning.聽
Nine tornadoes were confirmed by the National Weather Service on Wednesday, and two touched down on the Mississippi Coast.聽
