Former Ellender High basketball star Dionjahe Thomas announced on social media Thursday that he will transfer to Southern University for the coming season.

A 6-foot-8 power forward, Thomas played in three games during his sophomore season at McNeese. He entered the transfer portal March 18.

Thomas was an LSWA all-state selection after leading Ellener to the quarterfinals of the 2020 LHSAA Class 4A playoffs. He transferred to the Legacy School of Sport Sciences in Spring, Texas, for his senior season.

As a freshman at McNeese, Thomas appeared in 29 games. Including two double-doubles, he averaged 3.9 points and 4.0 rebounds.

Southern went 18-14 last season under first-year head coach Kevin Johnson. The Jaguars finished third in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a 12-6 record.

Southern has five departing seniors and may also lose junior guard Taireon Joseph, who entered the transfer portal March 20.
