惭翱狈搁翱贰听鈥 University High claimed a title and a runner-up finish as the competition for Division III and Division IV concluded the first portion of the LHSAA state tennis tournament on Tuesday at UL-Monroe.

The Cubs won the girls team title and grabbed top individual honors on the final day of the two-day tournament. The two-day tourney for schools in Division I and Division II teams begins at 9 a.m. Thursday.

鈥淲e are very pleased 鈥 being able to get a first-place finish with the girls and a and runner-up finish for the boys is just special,鈥 UHS coach Johnny Shoptaugh said. 鈥淚 am particularly pleased with how our seniors played. Mary Ellen Longmire dominated the girls singles competition from start to finish. That was a great way to end her career.

鈥淥ur other seniors, Zoe and Duke Stein, were part of our doubles teams that won titles today. Duke and Cameron Brown kept fighting and found a way to win their doubles and that win gave us the runner-up finish on the boys side.鈥

Singles champion Mary Ellen Longmire and the first-place doubles team of Megan Longmire and Zoe Stein took top honors to help U-High score 14 points, ahead of runner-up Newman.

Mary Ellen Longmire defeated Episcopal鈥檚 Merrill Eglin 6-0, 6-1 in the singles final. Lauren Longmire and Stein ousted Newman鈥檚 Frances Casbrian and Macy Montgomery 6-4, 7-5 in the doubles final.

St. Louis Catholic finished with 10.5 points and U-High with 6.5 in the boys division.

U-High's Brown and Duke Stein posted a 7-5, 6-0 win over the Loyola College Prep team of Ravi Ahuji and James Graf in their doubles final.

Vermilion Catholic swept the Division IV girls and boys titles that were also decided on Tuesday. No 香港六和开奖历史记录 area teams were among the Division IV competitors.
