A 13-year-old Gonzales boy stole coins and sports jerseys from a building affiliated with St. Philomena Catholic Church in Assumption Parish, authorities said.

The break-ins happened on April 1 and 4 at a thrift shop inside a former church school across Convent Street from the church in Labadieville, an Assumption Parish sheriff's spokesman said.

The second burglary, which involved the sports jerseys from a church thift shop, was worth more than $1,000, deputies said in a statement Monday.

Deputies recovered some of the stolen jerseys.

Sheriff's investigators developed the 13-year-old as a suspect in both burglaries and later arrested him on two counts of simple burglary, deputies said.

The youth was later released to his parents.
