Jody Purvis has been voted in as the next Livingston Parish Public Schools superintendent, LPPS spokesperson Delia A. Taylor said Monday.

Purvis was elected by the Livingston Parish School Board in a 7-2 vote at Monday's special meeting, Taylor said. He will replace Superintendent Alan "Joe" Murphy, who is retiring in June.

Purvis currently serves as one of the school system's assistant superintendent of schools, according to the LPPS website.

Purvis was selected over two other applicants, Taylor said. An additional applicant did not meet the qualifications and was disqualified.

The dates for Purvis' transition period are being worked out, Taylor said.
