±«±Ê¶Ù´¡°Õ·¡:ÌýBoil water advisory continues in Killian, source of brown water still unknown, town says

A declaration of emergency and town-wide boil water advisory has been issued in Killian

The failure happened on Monday and poses a risk to the public health and safety of the community, the parish government said in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon. Potential effects are currently unknown.

The parish is still evaluating the cause of the failure as of Tuesday afternoon and has no set timeline for when the issue will be fixed, said Brandon Browning with the Livingston Parish President's Office.

"They are working diligently to find the cause," Browning said.

All Killian residents are under a boil water advisory starting Tuesday,  The water system issue appears to only affect a 40-meter area on the west side of Killian, but a town-wide boil water advisory was issued "out of an abundance of caution."

A boil water advisory is issued when water is unsafe for consumption, including untreated water used in ice, fountain drinks, food preparation and teeth brushing. Advisories are issued when the water supply is of questionable microbiological quality which can result from the loss of pressure or loss of disinfection.

In the declaration, Parish President Randy Delatte requested immediate assistance from the state.

"Our team at the Livingston Parish President’s office is working tirelessly to address this issue and ensure the well-being of our community," the post says. "We urge all residents in the affected area to stay informed and follow any emergency directives provided by local authorities."
