Baker Mayor Darnell "DA 1" Waites and Police Chief Carl K. Dunn were reelected Saturday, according to complete but unofficial returns of the primary election from the Louisiana Secretary of State.

Turnout was a little above 28% in both races.

Waites swooped in to another term with 54% of the vote against three opponents: Brenda G. Jackson at 27%, Doris Alexander at 11 % and Denise Stevenson at 8%. All are Democrats.

In the race for chief of police, Dunn won reelection with a healthy 65% of the vote. Challenger Willie Brooks III garnered 35%. Both are Democrats.

In the city council races, Rochelle Dunn won with 52% of the vote in District 2 and Desiree Collins was elected with 66% in District 3.

There will be runoff on April 27 in District 4 between Robert Young and Toni Jackson, who received 47 % and 39 % of Saturday's vote respectively. All the candidates are Democrats.
