Baker Mayor Darnell Waites was reelected chairman of the Capital Region Planning Commission during its March 20 meeting.

The CRPC, established in 1967, serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the 11-parish Metropolitan Statistical Area centered around Ïã¸ÛÁùºÍ¿ª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼. It encompasses East Ïã¸ÛÁùºÍ¿ª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼, West Ïã¸ÛÁùºÍ¿ª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼, Ascension, Iberville and Livingston parishes, providing planning services in areas such as transportation and drainage.

The election of the chairman occurs annually at the first regular meeting of the commission, with the chair elected by a majority vote of the commissioners present and voting. As chairman, Waites will preside over all meetings of the commission and serve as its chief officer, overseeing the implementation of comprehensive planning strategies for the Capital Region.

Reflecting on his reelection, Waites said, "I am honored to continue serving as Chairman of CRPC. I remain committed to collaborating with fellow board members and staff to ensure efficient allocation of taxpayer funds and address the evolving needs of our Metro Area."

CRPC Executive Director Jamie Setze commended Mayor Waites' leadership. "Having worked closely with Mayor Waites over the past eight years, I am confident in his ability to lead during this time of significant opportunity in the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÍ¿ª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Metro Area," Setze said.
