At least 7,000 Slemco customers in Lafayette Parish lost electricity Monday night, with Lafayette Utilities System reporting isolated outages as well.

In the city of Lafayette, residents reported power outages in the Saint streets area, including along Johnston Street from the university campus to Cajundome Boulevard and River's Bend.

"What we have had are various outages, mostly caused by tree limbs down, that resulted in two main feeders being out of service for a short time," LUS Director Jeff Stewart said via email at 9 p.m. "All outages have been restored and we are on standby for response as these events occur."

At 9:45 p.m., Slemco's power outage map indicated 7,828 customers were without electricity in Lafayette Parish alone, including more than 1,200 in the Youngsville area.

Another 2,679 Slemco customers were reportedly without power in St. Martin Parish, 1,269 in Acadia Parish and 864 in Vermilion Parish.

Residents across Acadiana shared social media posts about wintry weather precipitation, including snow flurries.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation also reported around 9 p.m. Monday the closure of Interstate 10 between St Martin Parish at the base of the Atchafalaya Basin bridge to the Lobdell area, La. 415.
